Content Management Systems

Applies to:
  • Joomla 2.5.8
  • Yootheme Template 2012

What?
For any web-developer who can program in PHP/HTML, this would be easy to hard-code and override. However, the article below demonstrates how to make this an option that your client can switch off/on using the Joomla Admin Panel.

How?

What?
Quick article here as googling/binging for how to refer to Joomla articles after versions 1.5.x wasn't obvious. This article is to demonstrate how to write the webaddress for a Joomla article even when you have Search-engine-friendly website addresses enabled.

How?
Basically you have to include &view=article as opposed to Joomla v1.5.x when the option and id parameters would suffice:
- SEF URL
http://www.joellipman.com/support/documentation/449-module-joes-word-cloud-jwc.html

- Direct Link (irrespective of SEF)
http://www.joellipman.com/?option=com_content&view=article&id=449

What?
If you get something like the following error:

Warning: call_user_func() [function.call-user-func]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback in /home/.../templates/rt_affinity/rt_sectionrows.php on line 311

How?

  1. Copy & backup the file /public_html/.../templates/rt_affinity/rt_sectionrows.php
  2. Find the following piece of code around line 311:
    foreach($this->horizontalCookie[$row] as $block) {
    	$block = str_replace('-', '', $block);
    	$this->module_row1 .= call_user_func($block, $this, $mClasses);
    }

  3. And change it to:
    foreach($this->horizontalCookie[$row] as $block) {
    	if(!empty($block)) {
    		$block = str_replace('-', '', $block);
    		$this->module_row1 .= call_user_func($block, $this, $mClasses);
    	}
    }

Having started developing multi-language components, it was important that I get a general idea as to what languages are abbreviated to. Usually I only write english files (en-GB) but it's not very international and narrow-minded to think only English speakers will use Joomla! CMS. The below is for reference only:

What?
Trying to make a component and can't remember how to store HTML code when the save command is clicked (ie. submitted from a PHP form). This is for the Opensource Content Management System (CMS - phew what a mouthful) Joomla! version 1.6.x to 2.5.x; no wonder customers have difficulty following.

How?
So it's the field on the XML file /models/forms/whatever.xml which needs the filter=raw attribute, for example:
<field name="item_desc" type="editor" filter="raw" rows="15" cols="40" default="" />

RokStories Affinity is the July 2009 release from RocketTheme and features extensive third party support for powerful and popular community products, such as JomSocial, K2 and phpBB3.

The template's core feature is Sortable Elements, which allows for the movement of modular rows, individual positions and stacks of modules

Image RokStories has been overhauled to provide the spectacular display that you see on this demo. The module adapts depending on your image size, so no need to manually create rounded corners on your images, RokStories will do the rest.

The custom features are also available in the standalone version.

 It took a few google searches until I could find out how to change the default weblinks order.  A lot of websites showed how to do this via the admin back-end panel in the advanced configuration... I can't see this panel, there is no advanced parameters under a weblinks category.

The issue is that suppose a menuitem links to a category of weblinks, the default sort order (as in the first time you view the page) is the order in the admin panel (not even by most recent).  I'm going to show you how to do this by title in ascending order without installing any 3rd-party extension as well as by any of the database values used by each link.
